[See image gallery at www.socophil.org]Soprano Ivalah Allen has appeared as soloist numerous times in major cities in the Midwest as well as Costa Rica. She appeared with the Sonoma County Philharmonic in last season’s “Overtures & Arias” concerts. Recent performances have also included Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Bach’s Magnificat, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Dvořák’s Te Deum, Haydn’s Creation, and the Great C Minor Mass and Vesperae solennes de Confessore by Mozart. She has also performed requiems by Brahms, Fauré, Mozart, and Rutter, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Händel’s Messiah, Lord Nelson Mass by Haydn, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Exsultate, jubilate by Mozart, Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, Poulenc’s Gloria, Stabet Mater by Rossini, Knoxville: Summer of 1915 by Samuel Barber, Alban Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder, Wesendonck Lieder by Wagner, and Five Folk Songs for Soprano and Band by Gilmore. Opera and music theatre roles have included Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Madame Euterpova (Help, Help, The Globolinks!), Mimi (La Bohème), the roles of Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors and Hänsel und Gretel, as well as Mother Superior in The Sound of Music.
Dr. Allen is currently on the faculty at Fort Hays State University in Kansas. She has also served on music faculties at Friends University, University of Wisconsin-Marshfield, University of Missouri – Kansas City, and Washburn University. A native of Kansas City, she is a graduate of Wichita State University and the University of Missouri – Kansas City. Dr. Allen stays active in professional organizations, having served as President of the Kansas Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the West Central Region of NATS.
